The first step is to determine the ID (inside diameter) of the pipe that will be plugged, and then choose the plug that matches the ID of the pipe for that application. Some of our Cherne plugs can be used for multiple sizes of pipe, but they should only be used when the size range of the plug is being used on a pipe which falls within that range. When in doubt, call the customer service help desk.

Pipe/Gasket Lube is a non-toxic soft paste like material used to lubricate bell joint pipe gaskets before assembly. It will not deteriorate natural or synthetic rubbers, and does not support bacteria. It will dissolve in hot water.

Fill the male threads in a clockwise rotation following the direction of thread pattern, or brush across the threads as long as you fill the root of thread without completely covering the crest of thread. 

Oatey has formulated different cements for various applications and you should always use PVC cements on PVC piping and CPVC cement on CPVC piping. If you have a unique circumstance, please contact our technical department.

Normal maximum temperature = 125° F. Normal minimum temperature = 0° F. Consult factory if you wish to use plug at temperatures outside this range.

Cherne offers two poly lift lines. The poly lift line with inflator (Schrader) valve fittings can be used on any plug that has an eyebolt, and also has an inflator valve. The poly lift lines with gauge can be used with any plug that has an eyebolt, and also has a removable inflator valve fitting.
